Wymondham Chess Club Kicks Off Season with a Bang! (Oct 2024)

The Wymondham Chess Club has launched the season with a spectacular start in the Norfolk County Chess Association league. All teams played their first matches in September, delivering thrilling chess action and setting the stage for an exhilarating season ahead.

Division Four: The Finches Soar. The Finches, competing in Division Four, played their first match away to Broadland. In a nail-biting finish, they secured 2.5 points, with a final score of 1.5 - 2.5. This strong performance showcased their potential for the season. “It was a tough match, but our team spirit and strategy paid off,” said team captain Eric Bradley.

Division Three: Wrens vs. Owls Derby The second match, held in Wymondham, was an exciting intra-club derby between the Division 3 teams, the Wrens and the Owls. The Wrens, last season’s division winners, drew 2-2 in a closely contested match. “Playing against our own club members added an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie,” commented Owls captain, Craig Parks.

Division Two: Eagles Take Flight Finally, the Eagles in Division 2 played away to Aylsham Spitfires and achieved a clear win with a final result of 1-3, showcasing their skill and strategy. “Our preparation and teamwork really shone through,” said Club President, Bodo Rissman. “We’re aiming high this season.”
